Types Of Piols Spheric Or Toric
The Phakic intraocular lenses are used for the correction of eye defects. These eye defects are concerned mainly with the abnormalities of the natural lens of the eyes.
Phakic lenses are mainly used in the condition in which the lens of the eyes is not removed. So phakic intraocular lenses are used mainly for the correction of defects like myopia, astigmatism, Hypermetropia etc.
Types of Phakic lenses:
These lenses are of two type’s spheric intraocular lenses and the toric intraocular lenses. The toric lenses are mainly used for correcting the defect which is called as astigmatism. The main precaution which is to be taken while inserting or precisely implanting the toric type of lenses is that toric lenses should be inserted in a specific angle or the problem of astigmatism is not solved. On the other hand if not inserted in a fixed angle the problem of astigmatism increases many folds moreover these lens have to be inserted and fixed in a proper way since they can have a bad impact on the endothelial lining of the cornea. So care should be taken while inserting toric lenses.
Toric posterior intraocular lenses:
First let us consider what are toric lenses? Toric lenses are spherical type of lenses. The main difference between these lens and the spherical lenses is the power in toric lenses is fixed only in a fixed axis. This axis is fixed accordingly the areas other than the axis has power in zero diopters. So in toric lenses we get axial power. This characteristic of lens is used for the problem of astigmatism.
Spheric intraocular lenses:
These lenses are made in such a way that we get power in every three hundred and sixty degree of the sphere which is involved in that lens. So the power which is specified is distributed all over the lens. So this lens can be inserted in any angle we want to since we will get the same power all over. So this type of lens can be used for the defects like Myopia and Hypermetropia. Moreover this lens can be inserted in safer way since there is no need for inserting this lens in a specific angle. So it has this edge on the toric lenses.
This is all about the toric and spheric lenses.
