Types Of Iols Pseudophakic Iols

Pseudophakic intraocular lenses as the name suggests are a type of intraocular lenses. So these lenses are concerned with the surgical procedures that are related to the internal structure of the eyes. Mainly the pseudophakic intraocular lenses are utilized in the cases of cataract operations. This lens is substituted in the place of the natural lens of the human eyes that is crystalline in nature. So in the case where the natural crystalline lens of the eye has to be replaced these lenses are used. Therefore, before the implantation of these lenses the natural lens is surgically removed.

In most of the cases the Pseudophakic lens are used as a substitute for the natural crystalline lenses. These crystalline lenses are damaged by cataract and become cloudy. So pseudophakic lenses are utilized in such cases. Sometimes pseudophakic lenses are also used for the sole purpose of vision correction. This is done even when the natural lens that is present is clear and healthy.

Characteristics of Pseudophakic lenses:

These lenses are inserted in the eyes and fit perfectly with the internal structure of the eye these lenses are made from inert material and do not react with the body mechanisms. So it is a safe lens to use. Due to these characteristics these lens are used for either vision correction and even replacing cataract affected natural lens of the eyes.

Types of natural lenses:

Mainly there are three types of pseudophakic lenses that are use today. These types are monofocal lenses, Mulitifocal lenses and the third type is that of the accommodating lenses

Monofocal Lenses:

Monofocal this name itself suggests that these lenses are capable of correcting vision at only mono distance that is only one type of distance out of near, intermediate or far. So the patients can choose any alternative which they want from these three distance options which is provided by the monofocal lenses. For one eye they can use near and for one distant focus all these things depend on numerous factors in which the medical conditions of the eyes should be given top priority.

Mulitifocal lenses:

Due to these Mulitifocal lenses the patients can obtain intermediate vision this system is more flexible then the monovision system. It is useful especially for the patients which have cylindrical type of eye problem.

Accommodating lens:

This lens is called the accommodating lens since it is easily accepted by the body and is accommodating. So it is nicknamed accommodating lens. This lens remains stable in the eyes and also provides the combination of distance and good vision simultaneously. It has a flexible nature which makes it possible to give both of these combinations.
