Types Of Iols Phakic Lenses

Phakic lenses are a type of intraocular lenses. So basically they have some properties which are that of intraocular lenses. Basically these lenses are made of plastic or of siliceous materials like silicone. Note Phakic lenses are not made up of glass.

The main use of Phakic lens:

Phakic lenses are the intraocular lenses. These lenses are utilized for implanting it into the eyes of the person who is in the need for treatment. This allows the person to avoid the use of glasses or contact lenses. So there is no need to care for the contact lenses with a cosmetic purpose. Phakic the name of the lens suggest the most important fact of these lenses. These lenses are implanted inside the eyes and when Phakic lens is implanted then natural lens of eyes is not removed. This fact enables these lens to be safe for the users in long run.

How to implant Phakic lens in the Eyes:

To insert the Phakic lens inside the eyes of the patient surgery is performed. During surgery a minute slit is made in the front of eyes. With the help of this incision the Phakic lens is positioned either just in front of the iris or alternatively behind the iris. So the placement of the Phakic lens is flexible and it will depend on the conditions and the various pros and cons considering the patients.

The uses of Phakic lenses in treatment of eye defects:

Phakic lenses are widely used to treat eye defects. Commonly they are used to cure eye defects like refractive, focusing defects of eyes. For the correction of myopia defect these lens are used widely. Phakic lenses are approved by FDA.

The natural imperfections of focal power of eyes these are the refractive errors which result in the blurred images of objects.

The main difference between the Phakic lens and intraocular lenses is that during the implantation of Phakic lenses natural lens of the eyes remain intact contrary to the other intraocular lenses which are implanted after the natural lens is damaged and has to be removed cataract.
