Types Of Iols Aphakic Lenses

Basically this is an intraocular lens. Intraocular lens is that type of lens which is placed inside the eyes. Major lenses are the contact lenses which are a part of the surface of the eyeball. But intraocular lenses are surgically fitted inside the structure of eye. So the intraocular lenses differ from the contact lenses in basic functionality and the uses.

First let us consider the aphakia condition and the use of Aphakic lenses in correction:

Aphakia is a condition, in which the natural bi-convex lens of eyes is removed due to abnormalities, injury, wounds or ulcer or even birth defects. This loss is very disturbing and it can cause defects like loss of adjustment, hyperopia and deep anterior chamber. Other serious consequences are glaucoma conditions, the disconnection of the vitreous or retina from the structure of eye.

Aphakic lenses are placed in the eyes in such conditions to correct these complications. Since in the condition of Aphakia the patients who are suffering form these conditions suffer serious optical and other problems which are related to aphakia.

Aphakic lenses are able to solve these problems effectively. The people which wear intraocular Aphakic lenses experience the decrease in the conditions like spectacle induced magnification and peripheral distortion. With the reduction of problems the benefits like the amplification of the apparent visual field are also observed. The recent Aphakic lenses are more beneficial in respect to the cosmetic uses and even it is better off in the field of the correction of spectacle magnification.

Aphakic lenses are the lenses have relative central thickness and are of high plus power. Mainly they are two types of Aphakic lenses which are available in the market are soft and RGP lenses. These are the two types of lenses which are available for Aphakic people. The second type of Aphakic lens which is mentioned in this article that is the RGP lens it has a major edge over the soft lenses since it provides more amount of oxygen to the eyes than the soft ones. From this information it is evident that the Aphakic lenses are useful to the people who have underwent surgical treatments for cataract and other eye problems in which their natural lenses have to be removed. So Aphakic lenses are very useful.
