The main reason of skin tanning is exposure to the sun. The ultra violet rays contain two types of rays namely UVA rays and UVB rays. The UVB rays are more harmful to the skin as compared to UVA rays. It is responsible in causing skin cancer among human beings as compared to UVA rays. The UVB rays not only increases the pigment in the skin but also increases the melanin which is responsible to create more pigment in the skin. The wavelength of UVB rays is more then the wavelength of UVA rays. The UVB rays have higher energy and more carcinogenic as compared to UVA rays. Excessive exposure to the sun rays causes aging effect and the chances of being affected by skin cancer increases.

Ultra violet rays causing skin cancer

The ultra violet rays damage the genetic material called DNA that makes genes. DNA is responsible for healthy skin. If the genes are damaged a lot due to ultraviolet radiation the skin cell will grow in an uncontrolled manner, which will also lead to the development of cancer cells. The skin cancer is also hereditary; if it is within genes then proper care should be taken to avoid it. Skin cancer is dangerous so to avoid that excessive exposure to sun should not be there. Among the two components of the ultra violet rays UVB rays are responsible for skin cancer.

Tips to avoid the excessive exposure to skin

Avoid the exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and wear protective clothing. The surfaces like snow, sand and ice increases the intensity of tanning by ten to fifty percent. Always use sunscreen atleast half an hour before exposure to sun. The intensity of tanning will be reduced by fifteen times by the use of sunscreen lotion. Babies should not be exposed to sun very frequently. The radiation of the tanning machine will increase the risk of skin cancer so avoid this machine. Tanning is a part of life and it is not possible to avoid it but excessive exposure should be avoided.
