Self Tanning Products

There are so many self-tanners in markets that it becomes quite difficult for an average person to choose the right one. In most self tanners, there is a component called DHA, a sugar which reacts with amino acids in human skin cells, and turns these into brown. Color of skin changes according to how much DHA it absorbs. If skin absorbs a little amount of DHA, it turns into golden brown. If it absorbs a lot of DHA, it turns darker, but not necessarily brown.

Choosing self-tanning products

Human skins are of varied types. So tanning products have different effects on different skins. It may happen that a product turns a skin into brown, and another into orange. It is recommended for people having olive skin, to choose creams and lotions that provide a deep tan. These creams and lotions contain a lot of DHA. On the other hand, people who are very pale should not go for products that offer a deep tan. It is important for them to make sure that a tanning product will produce a light tan. If a person is already having a product containing too much DHA, he can dilute it by mixing some moisturizing cream. After careful mixing, it should be spread evenly on body. Generally, a person should be ready to spend some amount of money for getting a good quality product. It is to be remembered that human skin changes noticeably over time, and over different seasons. So, tanning requirements may change.

Applying self-tanning products

The best time to apply self-tanning products is in evening, so that it develops overnight. And in morning, a person can scrub off any spots that turned out too brown, or fill in any spots that he has missed out. A good thing to do when applying a self-tanning cream or lotion is to put on a pair of latex gloves, and spray on a little self-tanner at a time. Also, it is important to spread the product evenly. It should be made sure that a person washes his hands thoroughly, after applying a self-tanner, even if he did wear gloves.
