Ophthalmic Lenses
Ophthalmic lenses are the lenses which are used by common people in day to day life. It is commonly used and also produced in large quantities. The reason for it is that these lenses are commonly used for the correction of errors which occur in the eyes.
There are two main types of errors which occur in the eyes short sightedness or near sightedness and the second one is long sightedness or farsightedness. These are the main errors which occur in eyes.
There are many reasons which are responsible for this phenomenon we are not going to consider them in detail now but the main reason for it can be defects in the growing patterns which lead to such defects in the size and shape of the eye ball.
First let us see in brief that how the normal eye works. Light coming form outside is focused on the retina. In the case of normal eyes the image of an object at a distance falls on the retinal part of the eye only. So due to this fine focusing mechanism of the eyes we can see all the objects far or near in this beautiful world. Normal eye is like a focus Camera which we utilize in day to day life.
The use of Ophthalmic lenses in shortsightedness and long sightedness:
In today's world a lot of different methods are available for the correction of the two main defects of the eyes. They are contact lenses, refractive surgery, laser procedures and many more but the oldest methods is to wear ophthalmic lenses since they require less care, have greater resistant to wear and tear. So they have become very popular. Only they are not superior in the field of cosmetics.
Correction of Myopia:
In correction of Myopia a negative lens is placed in front of the eyes. Negative diverging lens is nothing but the concave lens. It is commonly called the concave lens. It corrects Myopia by putting the image on retina.
Correction of Hyperopia:
This disorder of the eyes is known as far sightedness. This is corrected by the use of a diverging lens. Diverging lens is commonly called as convex lens. It corrects this defect.
So that is why ophthalmic lenses have become so popular day by day.
