Most Common Aromatherapy Oils And Fragrance




The word "Aromatherapy" is combination of two words 'aroma' means fragrance and 'therapy' means treatment. The basic principle of this therapy is that "Spirit and body should be harmony". In this scented therapy the oils extracted from plant known as essential oils and some scented material are used.

This essential oils used in aromatherapy are basically concentrated extracts of flowers, roots, stem, fruits or any possible plant materials; most often by using distillation method these aromatic essential oils are extracted from plant materials. These essential oils when extracted from plant parts are very concentrated and they are usually mixed with carrier oils like apricot, sweet almond, jojoba and grape seed oil. Some oils like lavender or tea tree are applied directly to the skin.

Some commonly used Aromatherapy oils are as follows:

Ylang-ylang: in aromatherapy this oil is used to reduce stress and it used as treatment on insect bites. Fragrance of this ylang-ylang is sweet but it is strong. Prolonged exposure to this oil is not advisable as it can cause headache.

Bergamot: this oil is extracted from rind of orange; so it has sharp and refreshing orangey fragrance. It used in treatment against stress, headache and also for anxiety. It is usually mixed with some floral fragrances.

Rose: rose oil has most soothing and beautiful fragrance and it is all time favorite. This essential oil has anti depressant qualities so it is used to relax and it helps to overcome the depression.

Jasmine: essential oil of jasmine is usually used in treatment against skin diseases; this oil has sweet, delicate fragrance which also helps to overcome depression, it also used to reduce scar marks.

Lavender: after rose lavender oil is most common essential oil. It is the most common ingredient of many cosmetic products. Fragrance of the lavender is also very unique it is woody and astringent.

Tea tree: this essential oil has some antiseptic properties and it is used in treatment against insect bites and acne. Fragrance of this tea tree oil is somewhat bitter and has typical medicinal scent.

Other than these oils sandalwood, patchouli, eucalyptus or cardamom oils are also used in Aromatherapy.
