Lensometer
Lensometer is a device through the help of which the different aspects of the lens can be checked. It is a similar instrument to the microscope. This instrument is very useful for the manufactures, sellers, and the ones who prescribe the lenses.
The different parts of the Lensometer
The first part of the Lensometer is the eyepiece.
Then there is a marking device, which is useful for marking the lens with the water-soluble marker.
A lens stopper:This is useful for holding the lenses in position while measuring their characteristics.
Aperture: This provides the entry for the light and this light passes through the lenses.
Spectacle table: The eyeglass frames rest on this place.
Power scale: This is a scale showing the power of the lens.
Axis drum: This shows the axis of the lens.
Power switch: The Lensometer works on electrical power. Therefore, this switch will regulate the power through it.
Working
While checking a lens we have to when we place them in the proper position for checking the power axis and cylinder or any one of them.
Before placing the lenses in the Lensometer when we look in through the eyepiece we see three thin lines. Tow additional lines also bisect these lines. If we place a lens for analysis in the lensometer then these lines begin to appear blurred. Then we have to adjust the right RX, which will make the lines, clear again. When you have adjusted, accordingly check the power scale or the axis drum r the cylinder, drum that will give us the values for each of them.
Uses of the Lensometer
The Lensometer provides us the values that are very important for knowing the characteristics of the lens. As for the lenses, which we use for our eyes, it is very important that they have the correct characteristics this is a very important medical tool. Whenever an ophthalmologist prescribes us a lens and we buy it from a shop, which deals with the selling of the lens for the eyes. Therefore, for checking and knowing the right lens for our eyes this instrument is very useful. You too should always check the lens with the Lensometer before buying them from an optical retail store.
