Irrigating Vitrectomy Lenses

The name of the lens itself suggests that it is a lens which allows due to its design the irrigation or the flow of blood to the part of Eye. Due to the ability of the lens to allow blood flow to the cornea it has the ability to keep Cornea moist. This is a very important thing during an operation since during operation the Eye has to remain open for long periods of time so doctors use this lens when such situation occurs.

Features of this Lens:

This lens is shaped in a form of a ring. This ring like structure features an irrigation port. This port allows circulation. The ring like structure consists of a suture that is thread like structure. The function of these sutures is to secure the two parallel rods like structures called as strut .These strut like structures are attached to the sclera. This attachment of the sclera to the struts keeps the cornea moist. This is a specialty of irrigating lens. SO This lens is called as irrigating lens.

Irrigating lenses play very important role during operation of Eyes. If these lenses where not existent then you can imagine the loss of the patients which where undergoing Eye operation. You can understand that due to prolong dryness the cornea of the patients can undergo sever damage. So this lens is of immense importance during operations of eyes.

The ring of the Irrigating lens is made up of tough durable stainless steel. Another advantage of Steel is that it does not rust like iron. This specialty of stainless steel does allow infection to the body parts.
