Implantable Contact Lens
The doctors also call them intraocular lenses. Today they are also very common in the methods for the correction of the eye refractive problems. Among the common types, there are two one is the Verisyse Phakic IOL from AMO and the Visian ICL from Staar surgical.
These have very good refractive powers and they are useful for correcting of very high refractive deformations.
Procedure of implanting
During the surgery, the surgeons place them in inside the eyes. During their insertion, the surgeons make a small incision in the cornea. The position of this lens is in between the iris and the front eye lens.
They are very thin and soft and therefore they fit perfectly in the eyes. Moreover, they do not cause any problems to the eye or the surrounding tissues. After their implantation, you can do the natural movements of the eye.
The surgery is very simple and it does not take much time. Generally, it takes about 30 minutes only. Once you undergo this surgery, the recovery time is not long and the eyes or these lenses do not need much aftercare. Its success rate is around 95 percent.
If you undergo this surgery then you will see the effects immediately.
Advantages
These lenses would be a good option in cases where the refractive problems are very big. For example, extreme farsightedness or nearsightedness, are two cases. This lens would make us free from wearing of the spectacles or in the other case from the care that we need to take for the contact lens. Once we implant these lenses, they will work permanently for us.
Conditions for undergoing the implantation
You need necessary physical conditions if you want to undergo this implantation. For this, there is an age limit of minimum of 21 years and maximum of 45 years. You can have either moderate myopia or severe myopia.
However, the main purpose of these lenses is that the people who cannot have the LASIK surgery done could use it.
The cost
For the implantation of these lenses, the surgeons may take different costs accordingly. However, the price of the lens implant should be in between US $1000 to 5000. In most of the cases, it would be around US $3000.
