Fragrance Products Potpourri

Potpourri is a collection of dried flowers, fragrant plant materials, colored wood, cones, seed which is basically used for gentle natural scent. Potpourri is actually a French word which means Spanish stew which has mixture of many ingredients. Potpourri is basically used to make room smell fresh; you can even use this Potpourri as decoration or for homes or in gifts.

Traditionally Potpourri contains dried flowers in closely fitted Potpourri containers so fragrance of those dried flowers diffuses slowly. Typical traditional Potpourri contains wood shavings of Cypress, Juniper, Lavender leaves and flowers, pinyon pine cone, rose flowers, cinnamon bark and marjoram; in these traditional Potpourri natural fragrances was used. In modern Potpourri plant material carved in decorative shapes are usually scented with synthetic aromas. For this synthetic perfume or spray is used. Many times fixatives are used so as to absorb the scent. Many different fixative roots are used for this purpose, Orris root is the most common fixative used in Potpourri. Some other fixatives used are dry lavender, tonka bean, calamus root, gum benzoin resin, deertongue, sandle wood barks and patchouli leave soak moss. These fixatives are also available in powdered form; such powdered fixatives are used in sachet Potpourris.

Use of many bright colored Potpourri flowers in potpourri is very in style these days; these are usually used in home decoration to add color than scent. You can use these as per season or festival, for example you can use pink or red flowers and green leaves for Christmas.

Potpourri is great as a gift for special occasions like birthdays, wedding or Christmas and some other celebrations. Potpourri usually comes into special decorative container like cups or bowls; mainly open containers are used for these Potpourri. You can even have Potpourri tied in small cloth pillow or satin bags; you can decorate it small satin bows and lace or even ribbons.

You can even create this Potpourri by your own; in this you can have different themes like Rose garden, lavender sachet or pines. If you like mix scent then just mix some different dried flowers or cone together put them into container and cover them with transparent cellophane bag, your Potpourri is ready!
