Apparatus And Methods Used For Applying Removing Contact Lenses
As the contact lenses are, very soft and in addition to this, we they are to be put in the delicate organs like the eyes the removal and insertion of the lenses is a job, which needs training and delicateness. If we use a wrong method while this removing or inserting of the lenses then we may harm either our eyes or the lenses or both of them.
Therefore, for the aid for handling the lenses many different apparatus are available in the market. They are the plungers. These are soft plastic tools, which have concave cup. You should bring these cups in contact with the lens. They form a stronger attachment with the lens than the one that exist between the eye cornea and the lens.
The methods for removing the lenses
As the lenses are as a gel in structure, therefore we need to handle them very carefully. They cannot bear encountering water therefore; we should never bring them in contact with water. Nevertheless, it is important that, we wash our hands with water and a disinfectant, which can be soap etc. However, these soaps should not contain any moisturizers or allergens like fragrances. After this washing, dry your hands perfectly.
Method for inserting the lenses
The most common method for the insertion of the lenses is using the index finger of our hands. Place the convex side of the lens on it and then in this way place them on to the cornea. At the same time, use the other hand for keeping the eye in opened condition. This is because the eye tends to close as while we put our finger in it.
As soon as the lens touches the cornea the surface tension of the fluid on the cornea, hold the lens on it. Sometimes the insertion of the lens may irritate the eyes for sometime. This may happen if the lens is not of good quality or you have not properly cleaned it.
Removing the lens
While removing the soft lens you should hold the eyelids and keep them open. Then with the help of your opposite digits hold the lens and take it out. Another better way is push the lens away from the cornea. As the other part of the eyes do not have the same curvature as the cornea the lens will buckle up. Then you can easily hold it and take it out.
For the harder lenses, you can pull them on the outer or lateral canthus, by use of a single finger and then blink the eye. Due to this, they will lose the adhesion. Then place the other hand bellow the eye on which the lens will fall.
